FT 6: Staten Island Children's Museum

We seem to be making the Grand Tour of children's museums in New York City. Next up: Staten Island! The Staten Island Children's Museum is part of a complex called Snug Harbor that was originally built to be a retirement center - homes, church, social buildings, everything - for merchant sailors. It's now a cultural arts complex, and includes the rather extensive children's museum. I loved learning the history of the area, in addition to visiting a great kids' place!

A pool (empty for the winter) with a statue of Neptune in the center. Sunny loved the mythology connection, and of course a sailors' residence would include a statue of the God of the Sea!

Hey look! I'm in a picture! The entry of the museum had these great dolphin statues.

HUGE games! Chess, and Connect Four.

There was a "travel around the world" section ... where our girls were radio broadcasters in the Alaskan wilds.

Azalea went under the ocean with her inflatable life preserver and swimming fins. We could not get her out of there. "Look! I'm swimming!" as she waved her arms and danced around. Three-year-olds are AWESOME.

There was a whole section on bugs, and we could even BE bugs!! How cool is that!
