Passover and Easter

I know that the Jewish Passover is not celebrated this year for another month, but AC decided to fold a celebration of the Passover into our Easter observance - the New Testament describes that Jesus Christ celebrated the Passover just before His Crucifixion. We're trying to bring a more faith-oriented and religious focus to our Easter weekend, rather than just the regular church service and obsessing about candy.

AC found a children's Passover program online and printed out the readings. He made the traditional foods for the Seder meal - matzah crackers, charoses (mixture of apples and nuts), hard boiled eggs, lamb, and romaine lettuce dipped in salt water. We had grape juice and sparkling cider in place of wine, drunk at specific points of the reading. The kids loved the juice and cider.

It was all pretty choppy, and Jewish friends would probably cringe at our attempt at a Seder. But it was an honest effort and I hope our kids learned as much as I did about history, culture, and faith.

We had friends visiting from DC for the weekend, and they were happy to join our Passover observance.

Yes, we still had an Easter egg hunt Sunday after church, but it wasn't the whole focus of the weekend. And that was the point.
