a new twist on Robin Hood

With my five extreme-reader kiddos, there are LOTS of children's and young adult (middle school/teen) books coming through our house. Sunny, who is currently 12, wants to share something she recently enjoyed:

Shadows of Sherwood by Kekla Magoon is basically a futuristic sci-fi Robin Hood, written for the YA genre. It's the first book in the Robyn Hoodlum series, which is very good in general. The main character is Robyn Loxley, who lives in a treehouse in the woods, after her parents were murdered by Ignomus Crown, the evil dictator of Nott City.

She and her friends are following the "moon lore," which used to be a religion until Governor Crown got rid of it, to find someone who can help. There's Tucker, who's training to be a priest. There's Laurel, who's quick and sneaky, thanks to her small stature. And there's Marian Crown, who, despite Governor Crown being her uncle, genuinely wants to help.

Mom said no spoilers, which means I can't tell my favorite part. I guess you'll just have to read the book to find out how it ends!
