incentive?

For a variety of reasons, our 4th quarter so far is going nowhere fast. It's frustrating and way past time to jolt ourselves into gear.

Yesterday, Sunny was in my closet looking through my book stash and she saw a Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle book that she wants. She already has 2 and wants this third one. So this morning, I sat down and wrote out two weeks worth of school - 10 assignments each for math, language, history, and science. I mixed in games and reading with actual "work" things, and typed it up for her. I looked over it with her and said that I don't care what order she does things in, we'll just check something off when it's done. She asked if she could do ten things in one day! Knock yourself out, kid. Frankly, at the rate she's been moving, I'll be surprised if she does the regular four things in one day.

When she's done with the whole list, she can have the book.

Has she earned the book yet?

Not quite - we've had 8 school days since I gave her the list and she's completed 6 days plus a couple more things. So not too far behind. She certainly hasn't done 10 things in one day but she's done all right with it.

I'm working on another list of tens and she can choose another prize. I may keep going like this until we end our school "year" at Thanksgiving. It's not going perfectly but it's certainly an improvement.
