This morning, I went to the district (or county - I don't know which) attendance office and filled out the form to register Sunny as a homeschooler. The deed is done. We're for real.
She's reading at who-knows-what level - way beyond her age bracket, that's for sure. She's still dragging her way through kindergarten math but that's because she just won't focus on it, not because she's incapable. Her handwriting is probably at grade-level - sloppy but improving. I'm working with her on basic spelling (she's at almost 400 words total) and we've only come across a few words so far that she's been stuck on.
Posy has a fall birthday so she's still 4 and you don't have to register for kindergarten here, so she doesn't have to be registered for 2 more years. Crazy. She'll be almost in 3rd grade by that point. So much wasted time! She'll be so far ahead that there won't be any point in public schools for her. Heck, right now she's working her way through our online math program because she likes it and is making a good dent in the kindergarten level stuff by herself. I haven't helped her with it at all yet and according to the system report, she's already 15% of the way through it. She's reading basic books on her own. On the other hand, she can't write her own name yet. I've let handwriting slide with her - that will definitely be on the schedule when I start her recorded work in January.
