AC has every other Friday off work due to a flex schedule, and we (I) have decided to use those days more productively - particularly for field trips. Off we go to the Mystic Aquarium!
It was super cold - of course. It's January. The penguins were the least active I've ever seen - they were just standing huddled in groups. Not really anything to watch. We missed the morning sea lion show so we waited all afternoon until the second show. It's too dark in the auditorium to take pictures, but the girls really like it.
The biggest hits were the beluga whales and the jellyfish. The belugas are gorgeous - like big dolphins. One of them was right by the window when we arrived, and it seriously started talking to AC. It was whistling and chirping like crazy. I've never heard anything like it. It was amazing. It stayed right next to him at the window for quite awhile.
The jellyfish are in indoor tanks so we weren't freezing while watching them. We were there for feeding time but you really couldn't see anything. The food was just a big cloud in the water and the jellyfish floated in it. I'd never seen jellyfish that looked like they had lights - the electric glowing was fascinating. Birdie and I stood there watching it for quite awhile after everyone else had moved on to look at other things.
