Poetry Month

Welcome to National Poetry Month! Any excuse for a ready-made literature theme, yes?

We started a poet-tree today - a paper tree trunk and branches taped to the wall, and the leaves all have poems on them. We'll add to it all month. The idea came from a Fancy Nancy book - Poet Extraordinaire. It's actually a decent introduction to poetry for elementary aged kids. We own it and have read it countless times, so whenever the word "poems" is mentioned, Sunny wants to make another poet-tree. She started with cutting out a bunch of paper leaves and built the trunk and branches herself.

I wrote an acrostic - a poem that is structured so the first letter of each line spells a word.

Sunny and Posy wrote some of their own poems and copied some others - nursery rhymes and Shel Silverstein. It's a good start to our tree and the month!
