Bronx zoo - part two

We are liking that Grandma and Grandpa live in New York for a while!! We took a second trip to the Bronx Zoo (the first was in May) this past weekend - we saw some new sections of the zoo and were happy to find some craft activities at various stations. We also revisited the carousel (of course), the butterfly garden, and the monorail. We went to the children's zoo last and discovered that all the sections that were closed last spring are now open! So we need to go again to spend more time there. We still haven't seen everything there - again, very glad for the membership so we can go as many times as it takes to see the whole thing!

Lesson 1 of the day - the endangerment of elephants by poachers who just want their ivory. The reason for the number on 96elephants.org is because approximately 96 elephants are killed every day. We did sign the petition to Congress to ban ivory imports into the United States. Pianos are pretty with their ivory keys, but that's not worth it.

Lesson 2 - a discussion about different types of butterflies, and some coloring of teeny little butterfly stick puppets.

In the newly opened section of the children's zoo, you could get in the tunnels with the prairie dogs. Up close and personal!

There was a lot of climbing in the children's zoo - a "spider web," a rope bridge, and trees. Posy got her Brave on and went on the rope bridge!

This is how Azalea chose to ride the carousel. Twice. I'm not sure she's my child. (Despite the fact that she looks exactly like me.)

I'm not sure when we'll be back - the Monorail and butterfly garden, and a few other things close for the winter. I'll be watching the calendar to see when things reopen.
