Central Park

The day after our trip to the Bronx Zoo, we braved the subway for the FIRST TIME!!! and headed into Manhattan. Sunny was quite enthralled that we were walking on Broadway Street its own self! We started on the west side at the Mormon temple so the girls could see our church there, and when we finished there, we got hotdogs at a street cart for lunch. It just seemed quintessential downtown New York City to us.

We were only a couple of blocks from Central Park, so off we went ... and we need to do a geology unit or something because what on earth are those monolith boulders all over? Seriously. And with a quick google search just now ... here we are at Umpire Rock. That is some crazy climbing.

While crossing from the west side aaaaaall the way over to the east side of Central Park, we found a playground where we stopped for a break.

Our goal was the Central Park Zoo, which is very small but had a great activity all the way through the entire zoo. We picked up our scavenger hunt papers right at the beginning, and the zoo had staff positioned at various points to explain things to participating kids.

At the children's zoo across the way, they had fun places to play mixed in with the animals. Magnolia decided to be "a egg."

After all the walking all the way across Central Park, the kids were pretty beat so we didn't stay there very long. We were out of snacks, and we still had to find the nearest subway station. Sigh. But we still stopped for a quick picture with Grandpa and to commemorate our Very Last Trip with the double stroller (that we bought when Posy was a newborn) ... it was given away as soon as we got home. This was not quite the end of a pretty long day, and look! Everyone is still okay! We did it!

We had quite a long subway ride back to Grandma and Grandpa's condo - clear to the end of the line in Queens. After the girls had rested a bit, they decided to try some yoga poses to entertain themselves. This was called Flamingo on Subway.
