Old Sturbridge Village is a living history facility set in the 1830s. It really is an entire village with all the different small buildings - homes, a church, a schoolhouse, farm animals, orchards and gardens, stores, and on and on. It was an all-day trip. It was just for fun - it's not related to anything in particular that we're studying right now (our current history focus is ancient Egypt). We'll definitely make another trip here when we get to the 1800s in our history course in a couple of years.
A woman did her hand-sewing next to the window for light.
petting the sheep through the fence
Using tangram pieces to get an idea of putting shapes together for quilts. (And I got a couple of ideas on how to put quilts together for real.)
the schoolhouse
The gang's all here! This home had real food on display and an actual garden right outside the door.
The large mansion house of the town had a gazebo in the flower garden.
the water pump on the town green
The outdoor play area had statues of animals to climb on, and small models of buildings.
Inside the main visitor's center was another children's play area - it had a playhouse with period clothing to dress in, a kitchen, a barn with toy animals, etc. We spent probably an hour here alone, which LM and I were just fine with! It gave us a chance to sit and talk for awhile.
