We're trying to get them to learn to slow down, observe the animals a bit longer than a glance, and read some of the posted materials to actually, ya know, learn something new. This is a work in progress. Sunny is catching on to that, but the others are still a bit young for that. I don't quiz them on anything when we get home, but I have started asking them while we're at the zoo (or museum) to find a new fact that they didn't already know. One lengthy conversation we had this trip was learning the difference between African and Asian elephants - the size of their ears and the tips of their trunks are different.
Fun times watching the daddy panda chilling with a snack. There was also a TV screen of the mama with her brand new baby, Bei Bei - he was brand new! If you want to see them now, the Live Panda Cam is here.
Our crew with the overlook panda statue
At the elephant overlook, there was a map of elephant habitat in the mountains of Asia.
Yay elephants!
Get the elephants through the maze so they "won't be" endangered anymore ... by rocking the entire tabletop. It was a very large version of that old toy where you tip the little toy to move the bead through the maze. I think they would have done this for hours if we hadn't told them it was time for lunch.
Posy, meanwhile, was learning that you can find out what elephants eat by examining their poop.
Checking out some frogs in the reptile house.
SH-C with all the kids. AC and I got a picture by this statue when we were engaged almost 12 years ago, so every time we go back to the zoo, we get another shot.
