three for three!

At random times this year, Sunny and Posy decided to write letters to some of their favorite authors - specifically: JK Rowling, Jane O'Connor, and Dave Barry. I admit to being surprised that they received responses from all three!

Sunny wrote to JK Rowling - the Harry Potter author of course - and in less than a month, she received a letter from Scholastic. It was a form letter with a pre-scanned signature but still! It was a response! It included a photo of Ms. Rowling which Sunny immediately put on her bulletin board.

Posy took a turn with writing to Jane O'Connor, who writes the Fancy Nancy books. I was so impressed with this response. Whether Ms. O'Connor or a secretary wrote it, it was actually written to Posy because it specifically addressed a couple of things Posy said in her original letter. So yes, that means my children will be allowed to buy whatever Fancy Nancy books they choose.

And last, we're back to Sunny, writing to Dave Barry. That was a fun one because I've been reading Dave Barry columns in the Miami Herald for as long as I can remember. He's been my personal inspiration for writing since I was a teenager, and now one of my kids is reading his work as well. She knocked out the entire series of Peter and the Starcatchers in less than a week, and wanted more. So she wrote and told him that. I think that was the sum total of the letter: "please write more Peter and the Starcatchers books" or something like that. (When any more author letters are written in the future, I'll be more on top of copying them before they're sent. I didn't do that with these.) It was a very brief response of "I'm glad you liked the books" but the envelope included some Peter and the Starcatchers fake tattoos! Fun things!

I have no idea which authors the girls will choose to write to next - these all came about rather spur of the moment. Getting the responses was really cool!
