term 2 week 4

August 29 - September 2, 2011

With the 2-hours-equals-a-school-day method of tracking, we got 4 days again this week. We read books - more poetry and science stuff about the body. We went to dance. We went to the library. We found a geo-board online and messed around with squares and rectangles and funky triangles. We learned how to sing the alphabet backwards. We memorized a little poem about the vowels to help us remember them.

Friday, I spent the first part of school time winding pink and purple ribbons around pens. Fancy Nancy's poetry book said that for inspiration, we need pens with plumes (since we don't have feathers, ribbons will work), fancy-covered journals, music, and snacks. So we had our very own fancy poets here. We also had to make a "poet-tree" - we write our poems on leaves and tape them up on a paper tree ... gotta love it when we replicate books. On one hand, I'm totally on board because it's a creative idea and they're working. On the other hand, there is hysteria if things aren't JUST SO when we copy an idea from a book. I could really do without the screeching. Anyway, I'll take a picture of it when we get some more leaves up there.

Saturday morning, AC took Sunny and Posy to the Home Depot Kid Workshop where they built little whiteboards. He suggested they use them like slates, like at the pioneer school we saw in Nauvoo because they're about the same size. They were all over that - looks like we have a new medium for handwriting practice next week.

Overall, a decent week.
