General Conference

We haven't had school for 2 weeks now but we're still waiting for Baby. Everyone is getting bored and restless so I'm very glad that General Conference is this weekend. I could use the spiritual uplift and it certainly wouldn't hurt the rest of my family either.

I've been cleaning today to get ready for being home all weekend, and looking online for activities for the kids during the sessions. Some of the blogs I read have huge lists of possible things to do - there's a lot out there. For the lists, go here and here. These are the ones I've printed off to get ready for tomorrow and Sunday.

A list of words to put tally marks with when they're heard, and some coloring to go with it.

Pages for a "Conference wall" - match the Apostle with the topic he speaks on. Click on the pdf in the post for the sheets. There's also a candy option for topics ... mmm ... candy ... I think I need to make a run to the store tonight.

A Conference journal for preschoolers

Sugardoodle's Junior Primary activity packet (make sure you specify landscape printing on this - my printer put everything in portrait and it was way too small).

Why am I putting all this on our school blog? Even though I consider myself an academic homeschooler rather than putting every single subject into the context of our faith, religion is going to be very much a part of education around here. High school kids go to seminary. There's no reason why we, with the freedom that we have in our choice of educational structure, have to wait until high school for our kids to learn anything in depth about the scriptures and our doctrines. I can't wait until our girls turn 8 and we can take them to General Conference in Salt Lake City. That's going to be amazing.
