January numbers

school days: 18 out of 22 possible. The first two weeks were partial weeks, and we've kept a steady pace since then.

field trips: 2. We went to the children's museum in Jackson with our neighbor and her granddaughter on a Wednesday - we had the place to ourselves and loved that! One of the floor staff, a guy named Andy, had Posy absolutely in stitches, laughing at a puppet. For the rest of the day, she and Sunny followed him around everywhere.

We also went to the Vicksburg Civil War battlefield as a family on a Saturday. We watched two presentations at the visitor's center - one was a movie summarizing the main events. The other was a map with lights for the Union and Confederate armies, showing and narrating their movements throughout Mississippi as the Union tried multiple times to take Vicksburg. This wasn't just one battle over a few days, like Gettysburg. This lasted a couple of months and there were multiple battles all over the area. I had no idea. We drove the entire tour route with lots of stops here and there. One hill in particular, we stopped at the bottom and again when we looped around to the top. That wasn't a battle position for the Union. That was a suicide run.

trips to the library: 3. Probably close to 100 books brought home. I didn't keep a count of the books, but we seem to be hauling home 30 or so every time.

chapter books read aloud: 2. Winnie the Pooh and Little Women. Neither is finished because we're not very consistent with reading from them, but they're coming along. (We read plenty. Just not necessarily from those books every day.)

spelling lists: 9 of 10 words each. 90 words this month!

art sessions: 6. Ranging from painting with watercolors to starting to learn to sew with plastic canvas and yarn to building a little piggy bank at the Home Depot kids workshop.
