bullet points

1. January went well! I'm pleased with how we've started our go-by-the-calendar school year. It's not perfect by any means - Sunny is still pretty argumentative about sitting down to do her work and extremely inattentive when she does finally get to her chair. But she's getting better and we're accomplishing things.

2. We're planning to move away from Mississippi in the next year or two, and to appease my own curiosity, I've started looking up homeschool regulations in the various states we're considering. They all require vastly more detailed records than Mississippi does (which requires, um, none.) So I'm glad I've started a daily log of work done. They also specify hours rather than just a vague "180 days" - they want 1000 hours. That comes out to 5.5 hours for 180 days. Wow. We're barely pulling 1.5 to 2 hours around here. What would we do for that long?

3. I need a new hiding place for my secret stash of books. I've had a stack of books on the top shelf of my closet for quite awhile - if I need a last minute gift for a friend, or we've had an exceptionally good day and the girls have earned a reward, or if I'm on my last nerve and resorting to bribery, I have my secret stash of books. But the secret has been busted. Sunny got into my closet and found them, and she requisitioned all of the Flat Stanley books. I had seven. Now she has seven.
