Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

Our second field trip in Texas was to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Their children's museum is a gallery within the MSH and we were able to use our reciprocal membership there. I LOVE the reciprocal membership!

We started in the planetarium to watch One World One Sky, Big Bird's Adventure - an introduction to astronomy by Big Bird and Elmo. We learned that the sun is a star that we are very close to, you can't fly a kite on the moon, and how to identify the Big Dipper.

We spent a substantial amount of time in the Children's Museum section, playing with trains and water. We paid a visit to the "dinosaur dig." We went through the big Grossology exhibit rather quickly - the terminology of "gross" bodily functions may have enticed a lot of kids but not mine. Sunny's attitude was, "This is gross? Oh, well, then let's go! It's yucky and I don't like yucky!"

It was a good day but, like with the zoo the day before, it was crowded. We had originally decided to go ahead with spring break travel that particular week because it was the local spring break so we could go on a couple of these outings with my brother and his family (who we were staying with). That part of it was fine, but the crowds were a bit much for our small kids. Next time, we'll decide on our own spring break. We like having museums to ourselves, when everyone else is in "regular" school. We're selfish like that.

The Grossology section had a large version of that old-school game, Operation.

AC and some of the other dads had their own fun with the trains in the children's museum sections - running them down the bridge and trying to make them jump off an incline.

Sunny building a series of dams. AC wants to build something like this in our backyard.

Where there is water, there is Birdie.

Posy with her little precision brush in the dino dig.

Even Magnolia had a special section in the children's area - a padded floor with a bumper and baby toys.
