National Scouting Museum

I'm not sure how AC came across this but we found the National Scouting Museum in Irving, next to the national headquarters office and about 20 minutes away from my brother's house. AC is an avid Scouter - got his Eagle as a kid, was in the Order of the Arrow, and now is a Scoutmaster at church. We had to go. And we had a good time! I definitely recommend this museum if your family is interested at all in Scouting, and if you're in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. And it's free on Mondays!

We watched a couple of movies about the Scouting program in general - how it got started, and about the High Adventure bases in the US and Canada. The Pinewood Derby track and the air rifles were our favorites. AC shot off a full round and I thought he did really well. At the end of his round, he looked at the scoring and said with disgust, "Tiger Cub level." Well, it has been awhile since he's gone target shooting. All of the exhibits had interactive features. One of the most educational things for me was watching a video explaining the Order of the Arrow - now all this random gear AC has makes more sense.

I didn't realize that we had so few actual pictures - I tried taking video of our Pinewood Derby races but I'm still learning to use a camcorder so we won't make you dizzy with my bad panning and all. Plus it was really dark in the building.

family picture ... the fleur de lis was cut off by our guest photographer. Oops. (And poor Posy wasn't feeling well - she slept most of the time we were there.)

AC helping Sunny with the air rifle - it was almost too heavy for her to even lift.
