whatever

Maybe it's because I was reading this blog all weekend about "alternative" non-school education and learning methods. Maybe it's because we're all burned out from everything we did in May, which included a 3-day hospital stay for Posy due to an infection. (She's fine. Hooray for modern medicine and IV antibiotics!) Maybe it's because Magnolia is teething and wanting to be held nonstop. Maybe it's because we had thunderstorms all day today. Maybe it's because I have some crafting projects that need to be finished by Saturday because they're for a birthday party.

Whatever it is, I'm feeling "unschooler" today. I really just don't care right now to deal with the never-ending battle with Sunny over doing math or spelling or language.

Right this second, Sunny is reading Harry Potter to herself. Reading skills and literature.

Posy and Birdie are out on our patio scooping and pouring water over and over and over in the water table we got for Birdie's birthday 2 months ago. Hands on science.

I spent a lot of the afternoon (when poor Magnolia was taking a nap) cutting circles out of felt for my own project - the girls showed up to see what I was doing, and sat there for quite awhile sorting them by size and color, stacking them, and designing flowers with them. Art and ... math? Sorting and patterns are kindergarten math. Done.

We also trimmed the edge of a piece of fleece to make into a doll blanket - fringe tied in knots. Art.

Sunny has randomly picked up her jumprope a number of times in the past couple of days and is figuring out how to jump. PE.

They're doing "productive" and "learning" stuff - just not sitting at a table with a workbook, and I'm not telling them what to do. And all this was today.
