Friday reading report 3

Free reading this week: Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Secret UFOs, Pippi Goes on Board, The Tale of Despereaux, The Story of Dr. Dolittle

******

The Story of Dr. Dolittle is a really funny book. It's about a guy who is a doctor and he has lots of animal pets. Lots and lots and lots. Jip is a dog who can sniff out anything. Dab-dab the duck is really friendly, and she's also the housekeeper. Gub-gub is a baby pig. He does the gardening. Chee-chee is a monkey. Chee-chee is a common word in monkey language meaning "ginger." Only the doctor knows that animals have a language of their own.

Chee-chee's cousin had sent a message in winter with a swallow that some of the monkeys in the Land of the Monkeys in Africa were getting sick, and they wanted Dr. Dolittle to come and stop the sickness. But there was a land called Jolliginki ruled by a king and a queen, and they said that no people could come there. But they also had a son named Prince Bumpo. When Dr. Dolittle and all of the animals arrived, Prince Bumpo was away fishing for salmon in the river. They put Dr. Dolittle and the animals in the strongest prison and Polynesia the parrot got them out the first time. They were trying find the way back to the shore when they accidentally wandered into the king's garden. They were put back into prison. This was when Chee-chee was away looking for coconuts. Polynesia pretended she was a fairy and told Prince Bumpo all that happened, but she didn't tell him that they had wandered into the garden and she didn't tell him that she was a parrot either. She told him he was a wizard, but he wasn't a wizard. Prince Bumpo got them out of prison.

The End.
