Our book this week was How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman. It's a fun little story of where all the ingredients to make an apple pie could come from, so when the store is closed ... well, then you must take a trip to get all the best ingredients! Everywhere from England to Sri Lanka to Vermont.
Monday: First read through the book. We looked up all the locations on our inflatable globe, and looked up all the food words (apple, cinnamon, etc) in Spanish. We wrote an English/Spanish list and put it on the fridge so we would see it often.
Tuesday: We talked about humor - the "silly" things in the story. We reviewed our Spanish words and some of the locations on the globe.
Wednesday: I got 4 different colors of apples, because they're not just red! They're green and yellow and pink, too! We ate the Pink Lady apple - very crunchy and sweet. (My favorite kind, actually.)
Thursday: Sick day. No school reading.
Friday: Last read through the book. We reviewed all the locations. Sunny and I alternated reading the sentences out loud.
The section was okay for the first week - not bad, but not particularly impressive either. I need to be more pro-active with the planning and map out the entire week instead of choosing things to do as we go. I'll withhold a full analysis until we've tweaked around our own use of the book a bit and tried it again a couple more times. It is kind of annoying, though, that our public library carries only 7 of the 20 books listed in this activity book, and that's if you can actually find the darn things.

Checked out the website. I like that you can see the book lists for each book. Some of the books are already favorites, but I checked our library and most of them are not there. I don't think I will use this for our summer homeschool, but will review the booklists for reading suggestions.
