introduction

Another homeschooling blog to add to the masses that are out there ... here we go.

We are:

- a family of almost-6: federal attorney dad AC, stay-at-home mom TK, 3 girls, and a ??? due in October. Sunny turns 5 today, Posy is 3 1/2, and Birdie is 13 months.

- devout Mormons.

- currently living in Mississippi but we are not Southerners. On a recent vacation, Sunny told people that we're "borrowing a house in Mississippi. Our hometown is Washington DC." AC grew up in Florida and I grew up in Oregon. We met and started our family in Washington DC, so that's what we claim as our hometown.

- avid readers. Sunny started reading Harry Potter at least partially on her own at age 4. Posy would look at books all. day. long. if I never made her go outside. AC can basically speed-read. We own more books than bookshelves. We go to the public library at least once a week and come home with as many books as we can carry. We participate in a cousin book exchange for Christmas every year. We have an inside line to Scholastic book orders even without being in public school, and use it regularly. Shall I continue? There's more!

- road warriors. I love a good road trip. I love planning road trips. It's fun to get out the map and see what there is in a particular area.

- taking the leap into homeschooling. It came time to decide whether to enroll Sunny in public school for kindergarten or to educate her ourselves at home. After lots of thought, research, and prayer, we went with the home option. More on that later. The first day of kindergarten is next Monday.
