(week 7: June 27 - July 1, 2011)
I had a rough start on the week - backlash from being out of town for the weekend? We did only handwriting and math on Monday and Tuesday, but I'm still counting them as workdays because we worked for an hour each day. Unfortunately, it didn't get much (any) better for me but we did manage to slog through all 5 days. Sigh. Hopefully next week will go better. Three more weeks until our break - I'd better get our books ordered for August so we can start up again as soon as we get back from the trip!
Handwriting: capital letters D, G, J, O and P.
Math: shapes (beginning geometry)
M - a couple of worksheets where the girls cut out various shapes and glued them into their sets - circle, square, triangle, and rectangle. Posy kept calling the rectangle a door. It was also good practice for them to use scissors, something they need quite a bit of work on.
T - a coloring page where the shapes were marked with different colors.
W - we used playdough to talk about the difference between two and three-dimensional shapes like a sphere, cube, and pyramid.
Th - a matching page where we drew lines from the shape to the word, and then they were colored.
F - we learned some of the less common shapes, like hexagon and rhombus and trapezoid (and actually I learned what they were too - I had no idea how they were properly defined).
Literature: We had a free reading week - the girls read whatever they wanted, which is quite a bit even when I'm not keeping track of what or for how long. This week's library time was an hour and a half.
History: I found a number of books at the library about Independence Day, which we read. The girls really liked the one about the Liberty Bell ("Liv-erty bell," from Posy). So I pulled some clip art and made coloring sheets for the Liberty Bell, and we looked at our photos of when we visited Philadelphia a few years ago.
Science: We skipped the books this week because it's harvest time for blueberries, tomatoes, and figs. We'll be working for the next few days to get everything canned - lots of jam and pasta sauce.
And now for another 3-day weekend! Yay!
