(week 9: July 11-15, 2011)
The beginning of the week was even worse than the week before ... our AC quit on Sunday while we were at church and we lost power for 6 hours on Sunday night. Triple digit temps, no breeze, and 6 months pregnant. I wanted to DIE. We hid out at a friend's house Monday afternoon while it was fixed. Tuesday, in the middle of getting caught up on all my Monday chores, we had to get a new fridge because the freezer and fridge had both stopped working. We didn't lose a ton of food, thankfully - just all the milk. Meanwhile, AC and I are still scrambling to buy a van in the next 2 weeks (they apparently don't exist in the South, new or used) and get ready for our trip.
We finally got it together with school on Wednesday - 2 full hours of reading at the library.
Thursday, I worked with Posy on phonics while reading various Clifford the Big Red Dog and Sesame Street books we got from the library. She's going to catch on to reading in nothing flat, just like her sister. It wasn't taking much for her to figure out how to sound out some of the smaller words like dog and bug. The books from the library this time weren't targeted - just fun things that they like.
We had handwriting practice on our art easel, which has a whiteboard on one side and a chalkboard on the other. Math for this week was to practice writing the numbers, which we also did on the easel.
And we had music time! Yay for having our piano! We sang a number of children's songs from church while I played them. Sunny wanted to sing the whole thing of Follow the Prophet, a rather lengthy song reviewing various stories about Old Testament prophets (Noah, Moses, Jonah, Daniel, etc.) Good thing it's a fun song!
Friday was basically a repeat of Thursday, but with different books.
