Historic Nauvoo performances

Besides all the historic sites of various types, we saw 4 theater performances in Nauvoo. The performing arts are a great addition to school field trips - I'm hoping to find some regular things at home to attend.

The first was the outdoor Nauvoo Pageant, which depicts the history of the Mormons in the area and the life of Joseph Smith. High Hopes and Riverboats was also a couple of true stories about the early Mormons.

Just Plain Anna Amanda was a children's show teaching the principle that everyone is unique and important. We were told ahead of time that one child is chosen from the audience at the end of the play, so try to have our kids in the front row. We were on the side, but our very own Posy was chosen anyway. Yay! She was great, and when they asked her a couple of questions, she spoke loud enough that I could hear her all the way at the back. That was the shocker, because she has a very high-pitched voice that's difficult to hear/understand anyway and she speaks pretty softly when she's in front of people.

Posy on stage with Anna Amanda.

Posy and 2 of her cousins outside the theater with Anna Amanda.

Sunset on the Mississippi was basically a musical variety show. There were some serious moments, like a military tribute. But mostly, it was a lot of very fun and funny performances. We laughed A LOT.

A barbershop quartet of "mosquitoes." The whole number was a series of well-harmonized bzzzz's and slapping.

A bunch of Mormon missionaries fiddling "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Not quite what we were expecting, but phenomenally done.
